Why College Football is the Best Sport

I love college football and I have since I first new what football was. I've always like it more than the NFL, it's not even close by my estimation. The college game to me is more exciting, better atmosphere, and I can honestly say that is MY team because I went to school there.

There is absolutely nothing like going to a college football game. And for this I'm discounting any place where there is more concrete on the ground than grass...games in the city or at a non-BCS school just aren't the same. With all the tailgating, the entire city painted in school colors, the city tripling it's size on gameday, just the pregame activity is an event in and of itself. Then you get in the game, the band is playing, the traditions, the war cries, the intensity of the fans. You've got thousands and thousands of people, men, women, boys and girls all pulling for their team. There just isn't another sport that can match the atmosphere at a college football game. And I don't care if fans are really loud at the Broncos or Steelers' games because those are grown men and ugly women, fans who attend college games are much better looking and that makes them better.

I've never quite understood how someone can root for a pro team from a distance. I can understand that after living in Minnesota for 20 years you pull for the Twins for a couple years even though you've moved to Houston, but that should fade out and then root for your local team. Unless your city and state doesn't have a team I just don't understand people who root for professional teams that are far away. The reason I can't understand it is because there is no connection there, you didn't play for them, the owner isn't your best friend, your brother doesn't play for them, so what is your connection other than you decided to root for them or used to live in that city. But when you go to a college you apart of that University, and you pull for that school to win in football for the rest of your life. You were there, you lived on or near campus where the games were played...you walked to the stadium when you went to school there. You paid tuition and hold a degree from that school and you are an alumni who is forever connected to them. The guys on the field share the same experiences with you and are playing for your school. So you carry your college with you, but you should just pick up whatever pro team you live near.

Now I don't really understand how anyone can become the overzealous fan who is incredibly obnoxious about a school, but never even went there. Perhaps the worst examples stem from Georgia, Alabama, and Florida fans. Usually an Alabama grad is pleasant, but their fans who didn't attend school there are obnoxious and annoying. It's ok to be a fan of a team, but don't try to exercise bragging rights on the rival team's fans. You didn't go there, and you have no right to say 'we' when referring to the team. With that said, college football allows those Alabama fans to have a team, with a huge stadium and tradition right in their back yard. Fans in Mississippi, Arkansas, Nebraska, Utah, Oregon, Iowa, etc. all have teams they can watch and go to the games because that school is apart of the community. Pro sports just offer that to a big city.

So I've said stated how much I prefer college to pro, but not how football is better than basketball. Well, I shouldn't have to...it really is no contest. If you like college basketball better than college football then obviously you root for Kentucky or Duke because there is no way that should be possible. The real measure of that should be that probably 99% of girls would rather watch violent football which has a bunch of guys hitting each other than one where women excel and is much less violent. Football is a '10' to basketball's '3'.

College football is the best sport there is. It takes place in the fall - the best season, the games are great, the tradition is great, being apart of a school, rooting for YOUR team, bigger stadiums, and football is better than basketball; I haven't hardly talked about the great tailgating. There is no argument against this.
