LSU Should Already Have at Least a Share of the National Title

I don't have a problem with the LSU/Alabama rematch, but really, should LSU have to beat Alabama again to be crowned national champions?

First off, LSU is the ONLY undefeated team in Division 1-A (FBS). And they did it in the toughest conference. Not even Boise State or Houston could accomplish that in lesser conferences.

Secondly, they beat Alabama, who the majority of people believe is the second best team, on the road in the regular season. I don't necessarily believe they are a better team than Alabama...you could argue Bama outplayed LSU in that game, but in the end the Tigers did win....and so we know they are at least as good as the only other team that is close to them.

Third, they beat Oregon in the first game of the season. The Ducks were ranked in the Top 5 for that game, and they ended the regular season ranked in the top 5 with a PAC 12 Championship to boot.

Fourth, they beat West Virginia, who is representing the Big East in the Orange Bowl, on the road.

The count so far: beat the only other team close to them on the road, beat PAC 12 champ at a neutral site (without their starting quarterback, WR, and a couple others), and beat the Big East champ on the road.

Fifth, they went on the road to Starkville and beat a ranked Mississippi State team at night who ended the season about 5 yards short of a 8-4 record.

Sixth, they beat Kentucky, Florida, Tennessee, Auburn and Ole Miss (all SEC teams) by an average margin of 35 points.

Seventh, they beat the #3 team at the time, and current #6 team, Arkansas 41-17 the day after Thanksgiving.

Eighth, they spanked a Georgia team 42-10 in the SEC Championship that had won 10 straight games.

Ninth, 8 of the 13 teams they played were ranked at the date of the game. 5 of those teams are currently ranked including three in the Top 10.

Tenth, they lost their top offensive lineman before the season started, their starting quarterback was suspended for the first half of the season, their leading receiver from 2010 was suspended the first 3 games, their Heisman Trophy Finalist and two others were suspended for the Auburn game. They still whipped everybody.

Unless Alabama comes out and beats LSU by 3-4 touchdowns, LSU should be guaranteed at least half of the national title. If there was a playoff, that is one thing. But for LSU to have to play only one team who they have already beaten (and on the road no less) to win it is dumb. There really doesn't need to be a national championship game because LSU is the deserving champ. If the regular season is really ultra-important, than they are the champs. Otherwise lets have some fun with a playoff.
